These Guidelines Ensure Our Hens Are Raised With Integrity

 

  • Hen density requirement
    Hens naturally flock together. The space given each hen allows her to stretch her wings and move about freely.
  • Employee training program
    A rigorous program of both written instructions and videos to demonstrate what is expected of employees.
  • Bird handling policy
    Specific handling instructions to make the hen comfortable when handling.
  • Euthanasia policy
    Guidelines established by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
  • Biosecurity program
    To protect the hen from the introduction of diseases into her environment and to maximize sanitation procedures.
  • Light requirements
    The hen is photosensitive meaning she requires a certain amount of light daily.
  • Avian Influenza testing
    An added measure to ensure the bird health. Industry standards do not require this additional measure.
  • Chemicals management
    Labeling instructions are readily observable so no accidents occur.
  • Mortality disposal guidelines
    Ensures that mortality are removed quickly and disposed of in a sanitary manner.
  • Sanitation schedule
    To ensure the environment of the hen is clean and regularly dealt with as a regular procedure for the employee
  • Transportation schedule
    In moving the birds, guidelines are included on handling and environmental conditions to ensure comfort.
  • Quality management system plan
    Ensures that procedures and guidelines are followed from the moment the egg is laid to when it reaches the customer.
  • Traceability requirements
    The ability to determine from where the egg came from and where it ends up in the retail.
  • Customer communication
    Two-way communication with customers (retailers) to understand the extent of the PVP and to respond to any inquiries.
  • Internal auditing documentation
    Self-audits regularly conducted in addition to federal audits demonstrating commitment to PVP success.
  • Control of non-conforming product
    Specific instructions for the removal of non-conforming eggs from the PVP process.
  • Continuous improvement
    Demonstration to federal authorities that management is seeking improvements in the PVP program.
  • Corrective action plan
    When deficiencies are noted, PVP corrective actions are made within 30 days.  Industry standards allow a full year for corrective actions to be made.
  • Preventative action document
    System of checks and balances to assure compliance to PVP requirements.
